Miami’s coaching hunt is over as they have just hired Mark Richt the recently fired head coach for Georgia. Richt played quarterback for the Hurricanes in the 70’s and 80’s and has been linked to this job since the firing of Al Golden earlier this season.
Richt’s first and only head coaching job is Georgia where he first took command back in 2001 and has had control up until being fired last week. During his time there he amassed an overall record of 145-51, won nine bowl games while only losing five, won the SEC East 6 times and won the SEC championship twice. On top of all this Richt has only one losing season and is an extremely skilled recruiter consistently bringing in a top 10 class the last 5 years with 2 of those classes being in the top 5.
Miami already knows his accolades, they’re just hoping he can bring them back to a national championship, and they have reason to do so. While under Al Golden The U had no star power being lead by guys like Duke Johnson and Travis Benjamin. With Richt in the fold now they can hope that they’ll be lead by elite playmakers such as AJ Green or Todd Gurley. With so much high school talent sitting there surrounding him in Miami there is no reason to believe that Richt won’t be able to bring in some major star power with his first full recruiting class coming after next season. This should be a great signing for the Hurricanes that gets them an elite mind and maybe an even better recruiter as they look to turn the clock back and find The U of old.
