Bo Ryan Retires, Effective Immediately

Last night following a victory over Texas a&M Corpus Christi, long time Wisconsin Badgers head coach Bo Ryan announced his retirement. Ryan had already announced plans to retire at the end of the season, but following the win he decided the time was right for him to leave. His assistant head coach Greg Gard will take over for the Wisconsin legend.

Ryan led Wisconsin to two consecutive Final Four’s the last two years. Last year, his Badgers won a school record 36 games last season before falling to Duke in the National Title game. Last years team included stars Sam Dekker and Frank Kaminksy, who was selected in the lottery last season to the Charlotte Hornets.

This year was a supposed rebuilding year for the Badgers who are off to a 7-5 start. The losses of Kaminsky and Dekker are proving tough for Wisconsin, as they have already lost more games this season than they did last year. Nigel Hayes and Bronson Koenig are now the leaders on this team.

Ryan was the best coach in Wisconsin basketball history. He holds the school record for wins 364 in just over 14 years roaming the benches. The fiery head coach changed the culture in Madison. He coached University of Wisconsin legends Jon Leuer, Devin Harris, Ben Brust, Greg Stiemsma along with Dekker, Kaminsky, Hayes and Koenig. The Badgers made the NCAA Tournament every year under his 14 year guidance. Before his arrival, Wisconsin had only been to seven NCAA Tournaments and two Final Fours. With Ryan at the helm, Wisconsin won four regular season BIG 10 titles and three BIG 10 Conference Tournament titles. Ryan is a Wisconsin legend and he will be missed by the entire basketball community.
