QB Maty Mauk Dismissed From Missouri

On Thursday the Missouri Tigers dismissed junior quarterback Maty Mauk following the release of a video that portrayed Mauk abusing an illegal substance. This was not the first time Mauk ran into trouble as he, in 2013 was charged with 4 misdemeanors including fleeing the scene of an accident and operating a motor vehicle in a reckless manner. There have also been reports out of Missouri for the past two seasons involving concerns of his character.

Mauk’s legal troubles was not the plan when he first arrived Missouri. He came in as a four-star dual-threat QB that looked like the future of the program. He left high school with national records for completions, attempts, passing yards, total yards and touchdowns. Mauk was redshirted his first season and then took over for an injured James Franklin during the following season. When he debuted, Mauk showed promise and won two SEC Freshman of the Week awards before becoming the full time starter in 2014. In the 2014 season Mauk played very well for the Tigers and led them to a second straight SEC East title. He threw for 25 TDs and added almost 400 yards on the ground. Mauk retained the starting job for the 2015 season and kept it for the first month or so. Following the season’s fourth game, Mauk received a month suspension for a team violation. Eventually that suspension was extended to the entire season and the program said it was for disciplinary reasons but did not specify what exactly it was that got him suspended. And now we’re here with Mauk’s college football career most likely over.

Mauk is a perfect example of God-given talent but messing it up with dumb decisions. He continuously got in trouble and no matter the consequences he did not change. The team gave him multiple chances and he threw them all away. This is most likely the last time we’ll ever hear from Maty Mauk, the athlete.
