John Wall against Hawks — DraftKings: $8,500 FanDuel: $9,000
Out of the expensive options tonight, Wall is my top pick. The assists have always been there for Wall, the scoring aspect to his game can be streaky. With the presence of Beal back in the lineup I anticipated more of the offense to run through. Well, in their game against Toronto two days ago, Wall scored 33 points with 11 assists added on to that, while Beal had a season high of 15 points. Wall is still the leader and focal point of this team. He also has a great matchup against the Hawks who are in the top 5 worst defenses so far against PGs.
Patty Mills against Jazz — DraftKings: $3,800 FanDuel: $3,900
Easy decision right here. When given the minutes, Mills produces on the court. The key for him is to be the ball handler along with and it appears that will happen with Tony Parker being out for at least a week. He’ll most likely be in that starting role for Parker, which points to Mills being a great value play tonight. He’s received 20+ minutes three times this season, in two of those games he had at least 19 fantasy points.
Dwayne Wade against Knicks — DraftKings: $6,400 FanDuel: $6,700
He’s slowed down a bit, but Wade has shown he can be a nice offensive compliment to Jimmy Butler. The Knicks so far have shown a deficiency in defending against SGs, which gives Wade a much higher point ceiling. He has a high floor, making this a safe play, but for this to return some value Wade needs to take opportunities away from Butler.
Kyle Korver against Wizards — DraftKings: $4,000 FanDuel: $3,700
All about the matchup with this pick. Any average NBA fan knows that Korver is a one-trick pony. He won’t stuff the stat sheet in any category other than three pointers. So, a game where he has the opportunity for a high volume of open shots is the only time he will exceed value. The Wizards are by far the worst defense against SGs, so I’m hoping tonight is the night for Korver. Kent Bazemore may be an interesting play as well.
Nicolas Batum against Nets — DraftKings: $6,600 FanDuel: $6,400
Batum is an all-around player integral to the success of the Hornets. He’s as consistent as they come in, never going below 29 fantasy points this season. Right now he’s averaging a modest 13.3 PPG, but he surely makes up for that with 5.3 APG and 5.8 RPG. With how awful the Nets defense is all around the court, I can see Batum stuffing the stat sheet tonight.
TJ Warren against Pelicans — DraftKings: $6,300 FanDuel: $5,900
Warren has to be the biggest surprise in this early NBA season. In a team that includes scorers like Eric Bledsoe, Brandon Knight, and Devin Booker, Warren leads the pack with 22.4 PPG. To complement that he’s averaging 6.2 RPG as well. There’s no signs that Warren will be less of a threat on offense, so as long as he’s hot I’m rolling with him
Julius Randle against Warriors — DraftKings: $6,100 FanDuel: $6,10
I’m going to start off by saying I think Randle is a much better tournament play than cash game option. He’s had two games that really stand out, 41 fantasy points against OKC and 37 against Houston. The other three were rather meh games. He stands out to me against the Warriors because of the high scoring nature of this game. The Warriors are the worst defending against PFs, and the total for this game is looking upwards of 228. I’d look out for Larry Nance Jr. too because there is an opportunity for this game to be a bloodbath.
Terrence Jones against Suns — DraftKings: $3,500 FanDuel: $3,900
Dante Cunningham is out for the Pelicans tonight, leaving a hole open for Terrence Jones. Jones logged 30 minutes in their game on Wednesday and scored 24 fantasy points against a tough defensive opponent in the Grizzlies. Jones will likely see minutes in the area of 30 again and finding value like this is tough. If you need a cheap play, Jones is that guy tonight.
Jonas Valanciunas against Heat — DraftKings: $6,500 FanDuel: $6,200
The Heat are real tough on the guard position. The bulk of the Raptors offense runs through Lowry and Derozan, but Valanciunas can be just as deadly in the paint. Oddly enough, Valanciunas’ highest scoring fantasy game came opposite to Andre Drummond, so maybe playing against Hassan Whiteside will add a little bit to his motivation. If the Heat hold back Lowry and Derozan like I think they will, Valanciunas will have a lot of opporunities.
Tyson Chandler against Pelicans — DraftKings: $4,400 FanDuel: $4,500
Chandler has had a few strong games recently. In two of his last three he had 18 rebounds along with a 6-8 points. The Pelicans, like the Heat, don’t present a huge threat against Centers. This is another game that could end up high scoring, so Chandler is dark horse in this game.
